Maple sap boiling away during at Maine Maple Sunday 2018Mark your calendars – Maine Maple Sunday 2018 is March 25th. Come taste fresh pure Maine maple syrup at source at the source and learn about the time-honored tradition of maple sugaring.

There’s nothing quite like maple sugaring time. Every March the temperature warms just enough to get the sap in those Maine maple trees flowing and out come the taps and buckets. Before you know it, steam is rising from the sugarhouses, and the delicious scent of boiling maple sap is in the air.

March is International Maple Month in both Canada and the United States. Maine celebrates the maple harvest all month long and with a special weekend every fourth Sunday in March: Maine Maple Sunday.

Maine Maple Sunday 2018 is your opportunity to have a true farm to table experience. Come learn the maple sugaring process, from the trees to your pancakes, at local Maine maple farms. You’ll see taps in trees filling buckets with sap one drip at a time and watch and smell the sap being boiled down.

Most participating farms will also be offering samples of their fresh syrup and special treats like Maple Taffy. Maple taffy is a rare and delightful candy made by ladling hot, fresh maple syrup onto ice and letting it cool to a taffy-like consistency.

Though the title implies a one-day event, a great many farms are open and will host events both days of the weekend. Many will also include special events and activities like pancake breakfasts, live music, and tours.

Our Kennebunkport B&B, The Captain Jefferds Inn, is within a half hour’s drive or less of 6 participating, local maple farms. You may also view the full list of over 90 participating Maine maple farms.
